Nana: Fashion has infinite possibilities, and new power is born from it. As a carrier of culture and times, fashion encompasses everything. From trendy to traditional culture, from celebrities, idols to everyone’s daily life, and from West to East, it is our discourse, our power, our time. Through Asian Voice, we hope to spread the local Asian fashion culture to the world by moving cross languages and borders.
In this issue of ASIAN VOICE, we are thrilled to welcome Show Lo, a multifaceted artist from Taiwan who has achieved great success as an actor, singer, and host. He is also the founder of the streetwear brand ★GOTNOFEARS★, which has gained a following of over 65 million on social media. Despite his accomplishments in the entertainment industry, Show’s true passion for fashion has driven him to create his own brand, which has helped him overcome some of the most challenging times in his life. As the name suggests, he hopes that ★GOTNOFEARS★ can inspire a positive attitude and message for those who wear it.
Show’s various roles have allowed him to travel the world and draw inspiration for his brand. Japanese culture and fashion, for example, have been a significant influence on his designs, as evidenced by his collaborations with Japanese streetwear brands such as REVENGE X STORM and FR2.
Discover how Show’s ability to seamlessly transition between different identities and his brand’s unique perspective have injected new energy into the streetwear fashion scene in this issue of ASIAN VOICE.
Nana: You have achieved a lot as an actor, singer etc., what motivated you the most to create a fashion brand initially? Has the work experience so far helped in the establishment of the brand?
Show Lo: I’ve been influenced by Japanese fashion deeply when I was young. So, I used to shop at stores like Mastermind JAPAN, NEIGHBORHOOD, NUMBER (N)INE, A BATHING APE®, etc. After seeing how successful as they are, and having a passion for fashion, I decided to create my own brand. As an entertainer, I have lots of opportunities to visit different countries. Therefore, I can get inspirations or design ideas though the foreign culture, art, music, or fashion easily. I think that’s the best benefit I’ve received from my work.Nana: Is it a challenge for you to switch between multiple identities at work, and how do you balance them? Do you have any advice for people work in the fashion/entertainment industry just like you?
Show Lo: I wouldn’t say it’s a challenge. I mean I’ve been with the media and entertainment industry for almost 30 years, so I can switch in different identities easily now. Being curious and brave will give you a fresh perspective on things. Learning from failures and staying true to yourself always!Nana: The brand name “GOT NO FEARS” means full of courage and a feeling of never give up, is there any story behind this name?
Show Lo: As an entertainer, I always spread happiness and joy to people. However, I feel frustrated or depressed like everyone else sometimes. So, I want to encourage my audiences included myself that “When you are fearless, you can overcome obstacles.” and it’s also the concept of “GOT NO FEARS”. I hope to share this positive energy to everyone who wears “GOT NO FEARS” and reminds yourself that you’re not alone and keep fighting!Nana: How do you incorporate your brand’s concepts and messages into the designs?
Show Lo: As we talked, I always get some inspirations from my work or trip. I will share the newest trending topics with my design team, then we will get together to brainstorm. Maybe from a photo, street art graffiti, a slogan, or my music, we try to combine those ideas with our brand’s concept into graphics design. Then you can see the graphics print on our products. Sometimes, we also do a playful oeuvre of t-shirts with our logo or subverted designer logo. For example, we just create a brand new logo from my name – SHOW recently.Nana: How do you come up with each collections? Is there a special way to get inspired?
Show Lo: Honestly, we don’t have any exact collections, except some limited projects. We try to make the effort to show our individual point of views about fashion immediately. Normally, we release new products two times a month, and around ten pieces each time. The design idea varies depending on the weather, the environment, the news or the in fashion right now.Nana: You have hosted many collaborative events with prominent Japanese brands such as REVENGE X STORM or FR2, was there a particular collaborative project that impressed you the most?
Show Lo: I mean I love all the collaborations we’ve done; each project is special and unique for me. As for the most impressed one, I think is the collaboration with Mastermind JAPAN absolutely, which is one of my favorite brands! We met Mr. Masaaki Homma, the designer of Mastermind JAPAN via FEELLIKE team in 2019. We decided to launch a special collaboration together, and Mr. Masaaki Homma also invited fashion brands, roarguns and Maison Mihara Yasuhiro to participate in this project. I felt lucky to have a chance to work with them. After these amazing experience, I’m looking forward to collaborating with more Japanese fashion brands in the future.Nana: Can you tell us about some of the most challenging experiences you have had?
Show Lo: I think it’s exiting “Stage”, which is the fashion brand that I co-owned for 12 years. I put lots of effort into the brand, and as you know it was very successful. So, people always compare “GOT NO FEARS” to “Stage”. “GOT NO FEARS” is one of my favorite phrases, and it carried me through the lowest points in my life. So, it’s not only a fashion brand for me, but my faith also. So, I must make more effort into it and hope to pass more positive energy to everyone.Nana: Is there anything you would like to say to the brand’s and your fans all over the world?
Show Lo: I’d like to thank all my fans for their support and love all these years. We will try to do our best to present the best products and the special collaboration, so please keep your eye on “GOT NO FEARS”. Don’t forget to follow us on our social networks!Being curious and brave will give you a fresh perspective on things.
