In this issue, we welcome THUNDERBEAR and go through their journey as a brand and the challenges that they had been going though in the recent years. How has these experiences affected them and how have they grown as a brand from such incidents?
Nana : What is the story behind the beginning of IFIK?
THUNDERBEAR : Thunderbear is a shoes brand from Indonesian with a streetwear concept found on 15 february 2019.
Basicly streetwear brands in Indonesian grow so fast, but not for shoes brands, so we tried hard to create shoes with streetwear style, quality and with a affordable price.
Nana : Why did you initially create the brand?
THUNDERBEAR : The name of Thunderbear inspired by bears, a ferocious animal that can survive in the wild, while thunder is God’s super power. So Thunderbear is a brand with a ferocious concept. Moreover we hope to get accepted by Indonesian streetwear markets and the world too.
Nana : What are some of the inspirations behind the brand?
THUNDERBEAR : Basicly we love Vans so much. Vans is a cool brand with full of history and for us, we learn so much from them especially when we create products as they are always innovative and creative.
Nana : What is something that your brand value the most?
THUNDERBEAR : Affordability is the main focus for Thunderbear. We try to make good quality products with an
affordable price.
Nana : In what way do you use social media as a platform to deliver your products and designs?
THUNDERBEAR : Since it started, Thunderbear used Instagram for media promotion, information and that hs been very effective for us.
Nana : Can you tell us about some of the most challenging experiences you have had during
the process of building your brand?
THUNDERBEAR : When we started to build a brand, it was so hard but we think that’s normal since success does not come in one night. The most challenging experience for us was in 2020, when the pandemic covid attacked,
production and material supplies were delayed. Our customers complained and about 70% our customers who joined pre-order assumed it was a scam. Our social media got attacked and as the owner, we decided to refund about IDR.150 million. At the time we just believed in God and now that the problem is over that has made Thunderbear grow stronger than before.
Nana : Can we know a little about your next collection?
THUNDERBEAR : Thunderbear always researches the market beforehand and tries to present special articles with a focus on the materials we use. For example in the Easton Devera series, 80% of the material used best
quality leather and the names used are from political figures or names of philosophers.
Nana : Is it possible to let readers know a little about your next drop (collection)? If so, what has inspired the
theme and the pieces in them?
THUNDERBEAR : In the near future we will present articles that we have previously released, with better quality and those that look better than before that we hope can compete with existing articles.
Nana : Is there a particular artist, movie, place, book that you would recommend our readers to check for
inspiration?
THUNDERBEAR : For us Bandung is more than just a city. The cool air and the friendliness of the people made us want to linger in this city. A lot of inspiration from this city, exchanging ideas to produce a work is an easy thing because Bandung is filled with creative people and Bandung is a city with a myriad of history.
Nana : Do you have any advice for our readers who are seeking to find a way to build a
distinct and clear brand like “THUNDERBEAR”?
THUNDERBEAR : Never calm down, keep fighting. Every step is meaningful to learn from. Keep continuing to innovate
and present the best products and leave everything to God for the results.
“Thunderbear is a brand with a ferocious concept.”
