In this issue of ASIAN VOICE, we feature Vibrate, a streetwear brand from Korea. Vibrate aims to become an icon of Korea’s leading global street brand through the expanding design range and original brand culture. It possesses the accurate values with culture codes in various fields.

Nana : Can you tell us the brand story, such as concepts, messages etc. about Vibrate at first?

Chris: VIBRATE is a street wear brand that visualizes, and expresses the pattern pulsation produced by vibration, as in the meaning of words. Based on American traditional street sensibility, it is gradually expanding its design range and aims to become an icon of Korea’s leading global street brand with culture codes in various fields such as ART, FILM,MUSIC, DESIGN and PHOTO as well as clothing. We’re going to use our own ingenuity.

Nana : Why did you initially create the brand and name it “Vibrate”?

Chris : I chose this name because I thought I could create a culture through this intensity and sexiness of the name.

Nana : What has influenced the creation of the brand and the pieces designed for your brand?

Chris : I think the most important part in the era where many brands are created and disappearing is the value of the brand maker. Because if the values are not accurate, the brand cannot be continued to the branding.

Nana: How do you come up and decide on the themes for your collections?

Chris : Each season has a different way to make decisions, but this season we have prepared a theme of Vibrate’s once again reaching out to the world I was able to start this season well by collaborating with various foreign models under the theme of world wide.

Nana: Is it possible to let readers know a little about your next drop? If so, what has inspired the theme and the pieces in them?

Chris : I think I can give you a rough idea. We are preparing for the next season under the theme of Journey of Life, I’m going to express the colors and emotions of retro emotions in my ball caps and clothes.

Nana: Is there a particular artist, movie, place, book that you would recommend our readers to check for inspiration?

Chris: I usually go to the exhibition of paintings. I think the power of painting is really great. My personal favorite is Wassily Kandinsky of Russia and his work has a lot of influence on my color and inspiration for next season. If you have time, I think you should appreciate his work.

Nana: Can you tell us about some of the most challenging experiences you have had during the process of building your brand?

Chris : I’m always having a hard time I think the conflict between whether to compromise with the current trend or not is a difficult part every season.

Nana: Do you have any advice for our readers who are seeking to find a way to build an eye-catching brand like “Vibrate”?

Chris : The most important part of building a brand is building the identity of brand. It should be clear what you are trying to express through the brand. If the identity is clear, it’ll have a huge impact on the survival of the brand. If you prepare that part well, there will be no big problem.

If the identity is clear, it’ll have a huge impact on the survival of the brand.VIBRATE
